The First Month

Hey everypony, it’s been a while! It turns out that working, streaming, illustrating, studying and daily sketching doesn’t leave a lot of time left in the day for coding; oops! I wanted to make sure that I got this posted on the 1st to give you all a progress update on how my new years resolution is going! I will update this blog post later when I’m able to post all the images together, but if you’d like a sneak peek pls check out my instagram!

Monthly Illustration

Robot Unicorn Attack Gijinka

This month I drew a gijinka of Robot Unicorn Attack in my hyper-moe style. I wanted to do a lot more with this piece; like a more dynamic pose, longer and wisp-ier hair and a lot more metal and greeble, but, it didn’t end up working out for me, which is okay! Part of this journey is I need to be realistic about what I can and can’t do right now! I’m really happy with how it turned out in general, and I even recorded a speedpaint of it! I couldn’t decide on just one background, so I made a few variants, I hope y’all like it!!

Daily Drawings
Some days were a lot more difficult than others to do a daily drawing and other days I think I did way too much. The hardest part for me has been trying to get an idea of what I want to draw and trying to not spend more than an hour or two on a drawing. This month I’m hoping to strike a better balance as I feel like I was spending too long on something that is supposed to really be a warm-up. My personal favorites from this month are 01,03,05,14 through 18, 20 and 27. There were a few days in the month that I was just so tired but I still put a pen to paper and I’m counting that as a win for me! I’ve been having a blast playing with different mediums and using stickers to spice up my drawings!

Studies
I’ve been doing my studies as a way to warm-up before doing my daily drawing, and again, I think I need to set more limits with my time to try and help improve my speed because I’ve been getting too locked in on something that is literally a warmup. I decided to make this first month just fundamentals, so I don’t have a lot to say. I did practice some perspective and I feel like it makes a lot more sense to me now. I didn’t have time this week to start simplifying body shapes and landmarks, but that’s okay. I know it’s something I need to do, I just need to sit down and do it! I’ve really been liking drawing cubes and spheres and pyramids, but I’m a little weak on cylinders so I think I need to spend some more time with those!
